Tersa Earth Applauds U.S. Policy Shift to Prioritize Critical Mineral Recovery from Mine Waste

Date: July 27, 2025

Vancouver, BC – Tersa Earth Innovations welcomes the July 24 directive from the United States government prioritizing the recovery of critical minerals from mine waste. The policy, announced by the Department of Energy and supported by the Environmental Protection Agency, marks a strategic pivot toward reclaiming metals from existing waste streams rather than relying solely on new extraction.

The directive aims to:

  • Reduce reliance on foreign-sourced minerals such as cobalt, nickel, and rare earths

  • Unlock domestic supplies from tailings and acid drainage

  • Offer new funding, tax incentives, and streamlined permitting for mine waste recovery technologies

Transforming Liabilities into Resources
Tersa Earth’s model aligns directly with this policy shift. Rather than viewing abandoned or orphaned mines as permanent environmental costs, Tersa offers a biotechnology-driven process to extract metals from waste while improving water quality.

“Our platform is built for this moment,” said Barinder Rasode, CEO of Tersa Earth. “The U.S. is moving toward recovery at the source, and we’ve already demonstrated that it’s possible to treat mine waste in a way that’s both clean and economically viable.”

The Tersa Approach

  • Utilizes microbial fuel cell and carbonate precipitation technologies

  • Achieves selective metal recovery and acid neutralization without harsh chemical use

  • Designed to operate off-grid or with minimal power input

  • Currently in pilot and demonstration phases with major industry partners

Scaling with Partnerships
Tersa is currently working with mining leaders, including Newmont, BHP, and others, to validate its platform in the field. It is actively engaging with technology partners, community stakeholders, and government programs such as Sustainable Development Technology Canada to bring its innovation to scale.
